The afrofuturist artist Sun Ra famously sang “space is the place,” as a subjunctive expression of finding home beyond the geometries of brutality on earth. However, our current place in space, the ISS, is very much a non-place, where the rituals of human relation are displaced. The epitome of that displacement is the decontextualization of food stripped of every layer of cultural meaning aside from sustenance. With this in mind, the glassware is designed to reincorporate the rituals and joys of eating. Alloyed with the physics of microgravity, this menu is an exploration of place-based eating in our quest of interplanetary rehoming.
